My mission is… to mobilize and develop leaders to create a positive future for all.
I know with all of the negative news we have been bombarded with during the past year, you may ask yourself, isn’t this mission impossible? As I have shared with you previously, in order to create positive change, we need to shift out of our negative emotions to the ones that enable us to act. I’d like to share this quote from Howard Zinn.
“To be hopeful in bad times is based on the fact that human history is not only of cruelty, but also of compassion, sacrifice, courage, kindness. If we see only the worst, it destroys our capacity to do something. If we remember those times and places where people have behaved magnificently, this gives us the energy to act. And if we do act, in however small a way, we don’t have to wait for some grand Utopian future. The future is an infinite succession of presents, and to live now as we think human beings should live, in defiance of all that is bad around us, is itself a marvelous victory.”

Below I have summarized some highlights from the year which are the result of many small actions taken both by me and by the people who have supported this mission.

2023 Highlights
My approach to mobilizing and developing leaders during the last year has included speaking & facilitating, publishing and executive coaching:
- Facilitated the 2nd Native National Partner Retreat Nuchu: Planning our Vision, hosted by The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe in Denver, Colorado. At the retreat, Tribal leadership created a vision and eight “shovel ready” projects, addressing the most urgent needs of the tribe, including: housing, schooling, food, water, energy, healthcare, jobs and transportation. Engaged with over fifty funding partners to raise $240 million over the next five years.
- Spoke about leading with emotions at the “2023 International School of Emotions Retreat” in New Mexico. For the participants, there was an “aha moment” in learning to shift to the emotions that invoke leadership behaviors for positive change.
- Consulted with the leadership team of the University of South Carolina Upstate to create the university’s 2030 strategic plan, supporting a vision of an “education for all that inspires a thriving and just society.”

- Two finalist awards for the English edition of ASPIRE: 1) International Book Award (Management & Leadership category), 2) National Indie Excellence Award (Motivational category)
