Hello,

Twenty years ago I embarked on a new journey in my life. I was seeing mounting evidence that how businesses exploit our planet is threatening the future of our children and grandchildren. Then, while still working at Hewlett-Packard, I committed myself to study sustainability. I wanted to understand the complexity of the challenges we face in order to learn how I might become part of the solution. After three years of intense study, I launched BoomerangCoach with the mission to mobilize and develop leaders to help create a positive and sustainable future for all. 

I recalled one of the many lessons I learned, while we were visiting my wife’s family in the North East of Brazil during the holidays. The lesson was that local business owners typically care about the environment in which their families live. I knew this to be true from having grown up in a village in Germany, where my parents were small business owners who were passionate about taking care of their local environment.

So, during my family’s holiday break, instead of shopping at a corporate supermarket chain, we bought our fish, fresh from a local fisherman. Not only does buying local allow this fisherman to feed his family, but the money may circulate up to four times within the community and will support other local businesses and their families too. 

While many of us may feel helpless at times about the complexities of the world, we are empowered to create positive change by “acting locally”.
