Before leaders act, they must first understand. Sounds simple—yet it’s one of the hardest things to practice. We often believe we already know, or we let unconscious bias cloud our judgment. And when leaders act without truly understanding, they risk making misguided decisions.
In this short video, I share why interest—not just empathy—is the key to genuine understanding. Interest is the emotion that keeps us curious, engaged, and open long enough to truly understand a person or a complex issue. This is especially critical when it comes to those who are hardest to understand or relate to.
