Optimism

When we’re caught in a crisis, it’s easy to stay in the valley—surrounded by fog, focused only on survival. But leaders must find ways to climb higher, where the view clears and new horizons come into sight.

In this short video, I share the story of Chairman Manuel Heart of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe, who faced overwhelming challenges and chose to lead his community toward a shared vision of a healthy, safe future for their children. That shift—from despair to optimism—gave his people the strength to act. Optimism is the emotion that makes visioning possible, and it can be learned.
