Trust is the foundation of every great team, relationship, and collaboration—yet it is one of the most overlooked leadership skills. Research shows that trust increases life satisfaction, reduces chronic stress, and drives organizational performance. And it can be learned.

In this short video, I share the remarkable story of how West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev transformed deep personal distrust into a partnership that helped reunite Germany peacefully. Their story illustrates the four dimensions of trust—sincerity, reliability, competence, and care—and how leaders can apply them to rebuild and deepen trust in any relationship.
